Berlin never tired of painting flowers. These dahlias and zinnias, completed soon after his arrival in the New Forest, are an explosion of colour and texture, expressing an optimism despite the difficult circumstances in which he and Juanita had found themselves. In Spring of 1954 they had moved into the comparative safety of Edie Gailor’s field at Brickiln.
