A date for your diary - Friday, 14th March 2025.
Looking forward to meeting the folk at Boldre Parish Historical Society who have kindly invited me to give my talk, Sven Berlin: Portraying the Romany Spirit
As you may recall, the Romany families in the New Forest welcomed Sven and his second wife Juanita when they arrived from Cornwall in 1953 in their horse drawn wagon with their young son Jasper. In return Sven and Juanita did odd jobs for the community at Shave Green, earning just enough to survive, and Sven was rewarded with the opportunity to paint and draw aspects of their daily lives and poignant portraits of some of the most memorable characters. Including this really cool portrayal of 'Tuvvey' Cooper, a favourite of mine:

I'll also be taking a closer look at many of Sven's bohemian connections including from his childhood, in the New Forest, Wales, and later in the Camargue, France, illustrated with contemporary photographs and paintings.
The talk is at Boldre War Memorial Hall, Pilley Street, S041 5QG and begins at 7pm on Friday 14th March 2025 (£5.00 for non-members of the Society).Do come along... my book Sven Berlin Timeless Man will also be available at a special discount...
